Noorsche Vacantiereizen by Albert Hemelman (1926) captures the romance of early European tourism with a boldly stylized view of Norway’s mountains, water, and clustered village rooftops. Designed in the high Art Deco idiom, Hemelman’s composition distills the drama of the Norwegian landscape into crisp geometry and luminous color, inviting Dutch holidaymakers of the 1920s to discover fjords, fresh air, and far horizons. Its Dutch title—meaning “Norwegian Vacation Travel”—speaks directly to the era’s growing appetite for leisure journeys north.

This listing offers a museum-quality fine art print of the original travel poster, produced with rich, lightfast pigments on your choice of acid-free archival paper or artist’s cotton canvas. Available in a range of sizes, each print can be ordered unframed or expertly framed with conservation-grade materials. The Unique Maps Co. is pleased to add a discreet caption or personalized inscription (names, dates, a special route taken) upon request, and we’re happy to assist with custom sizing to fit your space.

Albert Hemelman (born January 7, 1883, in Neede, Gelderland) was a Dutch painter and printmaker trained in Amsterdam at the National School of Applied Arts and the Rijksakademie. A student of Pieter Dupont, Klaas van Leeuwen, George Sturm, and Nicolas van der Waav, he worked across oils, lithography, and drawing, and produced a distinguished body of posters and book illustrations alongside his easel paintings. A member of the Academy of Saint-Luc and of Arti et Amicitiae, he taught Henk Henriët and maintained lifelong ties to Amsterdam while traveling frequently to the North Atlantic.

Noorsche Vacantiereizen is an evocative document of interwar travel culture: a time when improved rail and steamship links opened Scandinavia to a new class of European holidaymakers. With its Dutch-language invitation to vacation in Norway, the poster sells not merely a destination but a feeling—of clean light, bracing air, and modern adventure amid spectacular terrain. For anyone who has explored Oslo, Bergen, or the fjords, its imagery resonates as both souvenir and promise.

Visually, the design is pure Art Deco: flat, saturated color fields bounded by bold outlines; angular, deep-blue mountain silhouettes that meet luminous water; and a rhythmic scatter of red-roofed houses stepping across green and yellow slopes. Curving paths lead the eye into the scene, while simplified forms and confident geometry amplify the land’s dramatic contours. The dominant blues, lifted by sunlit yellows and grounded with warm browns, make this an easy statement piece—striking in a minimal interior, a Scandi-inspired room, or a gallery wall of vintage travel art.

A thoughtful gift for travelers and design lovers alike, this print is ideal for birthdays, Christmas, Mother’s or Father’s Day, a housewarming, or as a keepsake for someone recently returned from Norway. Commission a personalized caption to commemorate a honeymoon, a favorite hike, or a once-in-a-lifetime fjord cruise, and bring the spirit of northern adventure home.
